Tarot Reading for the Collective ~ December 2019: Minoan Tarot

Dear Collective,

From where I sit on Gadigal land, the sky has been orange for days, the sun magenta, the moon blood red, and the smoke has been all pervasive. While ecosystems burn and wildlife and humans die, I was wondering what tarot deck could possibly be up to the daunting task of a collective reading during this unsettling time. I never have to look further than the creations of Ellen Lorenzi-Prince. Her decks are real and powerful and they always encourage me to feel more deeply and to access understandings that may have been hidden by the busy-ness of life.

This week I did a reading for a client using the Tarot of the Crone (this is an amazing deck by Ellen Lorenzi-Prince – when you come for a reading you can request it – if you are ready for images that pack a punch).  This client was very excited to discover that Ellen has also created a deck about the Minoans. I took this as a sign, and as the Minoan culture celebrated art and peaceful development prior to tumultuous climactic events,  it made perfect sense to turn to the Minoan Tarot for the end of year reading.

The questions for this month are:

What needs to die?

What will sustain our love?

How will the wheel turn?

What shall we nurture, in hope of a better future?

Let’s begin.

1. What needs to die?

Art Ten

Let us allow the delusional dance of excess to fall to earth and be buried. Let selfish dreams of egocentric abundance be replaced by communal dreams of creating breathable futures. Let the conversations that deny space for real pain and real loss die once and for all, to be replaced by words that summon raw, beautiful, artful power. Let the dance be about connection and love, rather than image and pomp. Let vain pride and the refusal to accept mistakes, dissipate and die.

2. What will sustain our love?

Sea Master

Version 2

Sharing our bounty will sustain our love, as will acts of kindness that extend beyond our fear of lack. Interweaving humility and the genuine desire to learn from those who hold ancient wisdom will allow love to grow. Supporting visionary artists who feed us new ways of seeing this strange and crumbling world will help us sustain respectful devotion to positive possibilities. Our love will be sustained by holding each others’ big emotions for as long as we can, trusting that there will always be someone to lean in and support us if we feel the cracks widening. Sincerely asking for help will sustain our love so that we have more to share.

3. How will the wheel turn?

Visionary

The wheel will turn towards magic and beauty, towards both inward reflection and outward imaginings. The edge of uncertainty will always be there, as we have abused the generosity of this earth for far too long already. And so with care, we must allow our quiet, humble revelations to become loud and bold expressions of fearless vision. The wheel will turn to show us what we still have and how we must take our relationships with each other and the land seriously enough to know that there is absolutely no point in causing harm anymore. We are turning towards hope and destruction, fragility and unbreakable love,  with a mere breath between them. So we must leap at what our hearts can cope with, so we don’t miss our chance to live fully.

4. What shall we nurture, in hope of a better future?

Earth Worker

We shall nurture the union of vision and action, combining the two so that at last we can move beyond mere discussion. In hope of a better future, we can cultivate our relationship to adventurous ideas so that we can bravely face whatever may occur. Let us nurture our capacity to consider realities beyond what we have been told to be true. Who is telling these stories of fear and ignorance? Let us be gutsy in how we speak out. In hope that our combined futures will be long and beautiful, let us grow beyond our shame and start fighting battles that centre our love of culture, art, fresh air and deep, softening rain.

I was thinking of those living on burning lands while doing this reading, but it is my hope that it resonates with you in some way, no matter the land you are on right now.
